Halifax, NS: The TD Halifax Jazz Festival (HJF) is thrilled to announce exciting additions to the 38th annual festival, taking place July 9 to 14, 2024. Grammy-winning rapper and social advocate, Killer Mike, hits the stage on July 9 at the TD Main Stage; R&B singer-songwriter Charlotte Day Wilson will perform on July 13 with guest, neo soul artist Nick Hakim; returning to the festival are Alan Syliboy & The Thundermakers as guests of Emmylou Harris on July 11; acclaimed singer-songwriter, Jill Barber, performs July 10 at St. Matthew’s United Church. Tickets for all shows are on sale now at halifaxjazzfestival.ca. “Seeing this year’s lineup come together is thrilling,” says TD Halifax Jazz Festival Executive Director, Tenille Goodspeed. “Our festival continues to transcend boundaries and bring an astonishing variety of world-class music to Halifax. This is a festival with something for everyone, and we can’t wait to see our audiences and artists come together this summer!” Rapper, actor, and social advocate Killer Mike opens the festival on Tuesday, July 9 on the TD Main Stage. His critically-lauded 2023 album Michael earned three Grammy Awards and was noted for its complex portrait of Black southern masculinity. An active solo artist for more than 20 years, Killer Mike has collaborated with some of the biggest names in hip-hop, including Outkast, Jay-Z, Big Boi, T.I., Black Thought, and more. He is also widely renowned as half of the popular hip-hop super duo, Run The Jewels. On Saturday, July 13, Toronto-born-and-raised singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Charlotte Day Wilson takes the stage. Her warm voice and smoldering anthems have earned raves throughout an illustrious career. She’s been sampled by Drake, John Mayer, and James Blake, while Patti Smith recently praised and covered Wilson’s 2016 breakout single “Work.” Her new album, Cyan Blue, arrives May 3. Also appearing as a special guest on July 13 is critically-acclaimed artist Nick Hakim, whose sound fluidly embraces R&B, soul, indie, psychedelia and more. Based in Queens, New York, the singer and multi-instrumentalist has collaborated with the likes of Erykah Badu, Anderson .Paak, BADBADNOTGOOD, Mac DeMarco, Onyx Collective and many more. Alan Syliboy & The Thundermakers return to the festival Thursday, July 11 on the TD Main Stage as guests of Emmylou Harris. The seven-piece ensemble is a celebration of Mi’kmaw culture, combining traditional music, new songs, storytelling, and visual projections. Three-time JUNO Award nominee Jill Barber performs Wednesday, July 10 at St. Matthew’s United Church. Her critically acclaimed repertoire spans a transformative spectrum from folk, to vocal jazz, to pop, and includes songs in both French and English. Her forthcoming release ENCORE, due out June 14 and featuring all new interpretations of classic songs, is a follow-up to her smash success Chansons. General Admission tickets for the 2024 TD Halifax Jazz Festival Main Stage range from $30 - $80 with a limited quantity available at special Tier 1 pricing. Advance tickets to Jill Barber at St. Matthew’s are $30.00. Fans are encouraged to buy tickets now for the best price. In addition to General Admission, fans at the TD Main Stage may choose from three value-added ticket options: Bleacher Seating, Stagefront Seating, and the Premium Section. Bleacher Seating offers an above-the-crowd seat, with the ability to come and go from the dance floor. Stagefront Seating offers a close-up view of artists, with the added benefit of bar service directly to your seat. The Premium Section offers access to an area with select seating and high-top tables, a private bar and washroom. Value-added ticket options start at $40 and are available in very limited quantities. Fusion Passes are sold out for 2024, but a limited number of Standard Passes remain available. Standard passes are $200.00 and offer access to all shows at the festival, including General Admission access to the TD Main Stage, subject to capacity. All pricing includes tax and additional fees may apply for all tickets and passes.
Gates for most evening shows at the TD Main Stage, located in downtown Halifax in the Salter Lot (1521 Lower Water Street) open at 7:30 p.m. and show time is 8:15 p.m. Evening performances are restricted to ages 19+ unless accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. You can register as an individual, or as part of a team of 4 (or more) people.
The minimum fundraising amount required to rappel as an individual is $1,500A minimum of 4 persons must be signed up to be considered a team. The minimum fundraising amount is $1,250 per team member, or $5,000 per team 4. Every additional team member is $1,250.
Training will be provided prior to the event date. A mobile training wall will also be
available on the day of the event for participants to do final practices, prior to the actual rappel.
